This is a short blog post to share a little (poem?) that I wrote about going home to North Carolina this weekend. The inspiration came because one of the last things I do at night is to take our dog Barney outside for a quick walk. And, this past Sunday night at 10:30pm, I was amazed at how quiet things were. I started to think of how this time next week, I would be home at my parents, and it would totally not be this quiet. The reason is the sounds of crickets and cicadas that fill the nighttime…..so, that, and admittedly a little bit of homesickness (since it has been 1.5 years since I have visited the States), that I wrote the below.
I will be traveling soon.
Traveling to a place that is very familiar,
But also to a place that seems to be changing.
Traveling to a place where the sweet tea is heaven sent,
But where the people are even sweeter.…
Traveling to a place where the sounds of cicadas fill the summer nights,
But the memories of my childhood are heard even louder.
Where am I traveling dare you may ask?
Traveling to a place I call home in North Carolina.
